Lust For The Devil: The Erotic-Satanic Art Of Felicien Rops
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 69.28 $The first true flowering of Satanism in erotic art came with the Belgian artist Felicien Rops (1833-1898). Rops, who had met Charles Baudelaire in Paris in 1864 and subsequently become a devoted disciple, thereafter commingled elements of death, prostitution and the Satanic in his work, particularly in his 5-picture series Les Sataniques of 1882. Pictures in this series such as The Sacrifice and Calvary are clear and explicit representations of Black Mass and Satanism which still retain their original power to shock and disturb. These images, as well as the others in Les Sataniques, can be found in LUST FOR THE DEVIL, which collects around 80 of Rops' most outlandish and confrontational works, including a section of 30 colour plates. Also to be found here are images of death and corporeal dissolution, ranging from The Death Penalty to The Dancing Corpse; images of prostitution and addiction, such as The Absinthe Drinker and Human Trash; and numerous examples of Rops' book illustrations, reproduced in editions of decadence and diabolism that include Paul Verlaine, Joséphin Péladan, and Jules Barbey d'Aurevilly's Les Diaboliques. Present too are a number of images of religious perversion, as well as several foregrounding Rops' trademark iconography - the evil and controlling power of women - ranging from The Puppet Mistress to variations of Naturalia, whose semi-defleshed subject, the "Diabolic Female”, displays her fearful bone vulva smeared with blood. These 80 images between them display the full range of Felicien Rops' darkest subject matter, revolving around his Baudelairean fusion of sex, death and Satan; they also run the gamut of the artistic techniques Rops employed, from oil painting and etching to pencils, pastels, and watercolours; and finally they reveal both the driving obsessions and skills of an artist whose reputation now places him as a foremost innovator of the 19th century.

Sex and the Floating World, Erotic Images in Japan [first edition]
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 150.00 $Sex and the Floating World offers an entirely new assessment of the genre of Japanese paintings and prints known as shunga. Recent changes in Japanese law have at last enabled erotic images to be published without fear of prosecution, and many picture-books have since appeared in Japan. There has, however, been very little attempt to situate shunga imagery within the contexts of sexuality, gender, or the politics of power. Questions of aesthetics, and of whether shunga deserves a place in the canon of Japanese art history, have dominated, and the issue of how such images were used has been avoided. Timon Screech seeks to re-establish shunga in its proper historical contexts of culture and creativity. Shunga prints are unusual in that they are overtly about sex. Once we begin to examine them first and foremost as sexual aids, we must be prepared for some shocks. In Sex and the Floating World, the author takes us into the strange world of sexual fantasy in Edo-period Japan, investigating the tensions in class and gender experienced by those who made - and made use of - shunga.

Licentious Gotham Erotic Publishing and Its Prosecution in Nineteenth Century New York
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 66.37 $Licentious Gotham, set in the streets, news depots, publishing houses, grand jury chambers, and courtrooms of the nation’s great metropolis, delves into the stories of the enterprising men and women who created a thriving transcontinental market for sexually arousing books and pictures. The experiences of “fancy” publishers, “flash” editors, and “racy” novelists, who all managed to pursue their trade in the face of laws criminalizing obscene publications, dramatically convey nineteenth-century America’s daring notions of sex, gender, and desire, as well as the frequently counterproductive results of attempts to enforce conventional moral standards. In nineteenth-century New York, the business of erotic publishing and legal attacks on obscenity developed in tandem, with each activity shaping and even promoting the pursuit of the other. Obscenity prohibitions, rather than curbing salacious publications, inspired innovative new styles of forbidden literature―such as works highlighting expressions of passion and pleasure by middle-class American women. Obscenity prosecutions also spurred purveyors of lewd materials to devise novel schemes to evade local censorship by advertising and distributing their products through the mail. This subterfuge in turn triggered far-reaching transformations in strategies for policing obscenity. Donna Dennis offers a colorful, groundbreaking account of the birth of an indecent print trade and the origins of obscenity regulation in the United States. By revealing the paradoxes that characterized early efforts to suppress sexual expression in the name of morality, she suggests relevant lessons for our own day.

Tom Bianchi: 63 E 9th Street: NYC Polaroids 1975â"1983
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 214.96 $Intimate erotic portraits from the Fire Island Pines photographerIn 1975 Tom Bianchi moved to New York City, working at Columbia Pictures as in-house counsel. Columbia gave Bianchi a Polaroid SX – 70 camera, which he took to the Pines on summer weekends; those pictures became the 2013 book Fire Island Pines: Polaroids 1975–1983. Now, some 44 years later, we get a first look at another extraordinary collection of Bianchi’s Polaroids, taken in his East 9th St apartment.Whereas Fire Island offers an expansive communal experience situated on a sunny sand bar out in the Atlantic under huge open skies, Bianchi’s New York apartment was an intimate, track-lit den, a safe stage where he and his friends played out erotic night games. Playful, nostalgic and sexy, Tom Bianchi: 63 E 9th Street is an essential companion book to Fire Island Pines and an important document of urban gay life.Tom Bianchi was born and raised in the suburbs of Chicago and graduated from Northwestern University School of Law in 1970. He became a corporate attorney, eventually working with Columbia Pictures in New York, painting and drawing on weekends. His artwork came to the attention of Betty Parsons and Carol Dreyfuss and they gave him his first one-man painting show in 1980. In 1984, he was given his first solo museum exhibition at the Spoleto Festival. After Bianchi’s partner died of AIDS in 1988, he turned his focus to photography, producing Out of the Studio, a candid portrayal of gay intimacy. Its success led to producing numerous monographs, including On the Couch, Deep Sex, In Defense of Beauty and Fire Island Pines.

Corporal Punishment 2 (Paperback)
Vendor: Abebooks.com Price: 24.07 $BDSM is not a recent invention. It exists already since quite a long time... The dominant men and submissive women and their erotic games. Somebody should whip your ass. This is the big headline of this picture book. Punishment through whipping and spanking. Beautiful girls get their backsides spanked. This compilation shows drawings and sketches, which address this fetish and this speciality of erotic games. These pictures do not hang in the great museums and the great artists have never had any interest in this kind of themes. You´ll see the unknown artists who wanted to express their emotions in these pictures. Sometimes just a few strokes with a pencil, sometimes in thick strokes with often morbid atmospheres. Most of these images are already quite old, because nowadays the photography has replaced paintings from this niche. Nevertheless, these works have a very special attraction. Enjoy....
